Business Spotlight: ‘boxthecity’
By Charlotte Skipper | on August 26, 2023
After receiving one too many plastic tchotchkes with no use but to be thrown in the junk drawer, husband-and-wife-duo Floyd and Sarah Welsh founded “boxthecity” to bring more meaning to corporate gifting.
Boxthecity provides customizable gift packages for conventions, seminars, workshops and more. Although its headquarters are based in Orlando, boxthecity has served clients in cities from one coast to the other.
With a slogan of “Put the city in a box,” Floyd Welsh said this ideology came from seeing other memorable city icons, such as New York’s “Big Apple,” and wanting to help visitors see the iconography of Orlando as well.
“There are things and products that create the story of every place,” Floyd Welsh said. “So, boxthecity helps give that identity to cities. From cutesy to impactful — it’s going in the box.”

Floyd Welsh said he strives to highlight local businesses at the forefront of his boxes. And he especially makes an effort to showcase businesses that are owned by women, members of the LGBTQ community, and people of racial minorities such as Black and Latinx. Many of his clients also look for companies that give back to their communities. Among his many partnerships are companies such as Blossom Artisanal, A Spoon Full of Hope and Oso Candle Company.
“For us, it’s about the ‘why,’ rather than ‘what’ we do,” Floyd Welsh said. “It’s to reinvest in the local economy, to bring awareness to local causes and support our local businesses with meaning.”
